Affirm Films has announced the beginning of principal photography on their film about Paul, the apostle of Christ. An arm of Sony Pictures, the company announced that actors Jim Caviezel, James Faulkner, Olivier Martinez, Joanne Whalley, and John Lynch were in production as the film shoots on location in Malta.
Paul, who wrote large portions of the New Testament and served as the first missionary of the eary church, will appear under the eye of his captor, Mauritius, while awaiting execution in Rome. His time is spent on writing the letters that make up the largest portion of the Epistles, as he attempted to strengthen the followers of Jesus against Roman persecution.
Affirm Films Executive Vice President Rich Peluso said that no one after Jesus himself played a greater role in disseminating the gospel. “He wrote a vast swath of the New Testament and traveled more than 10,000 miles by foot to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This gripping film dives deep into the final months before Paul’s execution under Nero as he reconciles his faith with his past persecution of the church.”
“Paul changed from murdering Christians to becoming their unlikely leader. His life personifies 'forgiveness', a concept that seems almost impossible today - but desperately needed," added producer T.J. Berden. “We at ODB Films are overjoyed to be working alongside Sony Affirm to share this much needed story with the world.”
The movie is written and directed by Andrew Hyatt, and produced by David Zelon and Barden. Affirm aims for a release date in 2018.
