Canaan Land is a love story between Brother Billy Gantry, a charismatic con man, phone psychic, and preacher, who falls for Sister Sara Sunday, a sincere Christian. Gantry is booted from the Beverly Hills mansion of his girlfriend. Homeless and adrift, Billy discovers Internet preacher Sister Sara, a beautiful evangelist who is on-fire in her faith. He talks his way into Sara's ministry. She seeks to redeem Brother Billy, who manipulates the flock with fake miracles, including a stunt with gold glitter and feathers he claims are from angels. He turns her small online ministry of YouTube sermons into a growing Tinsel town church involving celebrity converts and sermons at the Hollywood Bowl. A group of women Billy conned in the past unite to expose him. Their evidence against Billy leads to Sister Sara breaking up with him and expelling him from her church. Billy admits he doesn't really believe. A surprise visit from Billy's past urges him to ask for real faith again. Can Billy quit the religious show and false faith to find true faith and redemption? Billy asks God for a Christmas miracle to get his faith back again. A series of authentic events occur that contrast the bad faith of Billy's past. Canaan Land is an unapologetic look at televangelism based on the directors personal experiences as a former faith healing evangelist.
