Gospel Films Archive: Christopher Films Collection

Description:

The Gospel Films Archive is a multi-volume collection of rare and vintage Christian dramas and documentaries produced throughout the 20th century by independent Christian producers as well as major Hollywood studios.
In 1945 Father James Keller, M.M., established a non-denominational Christian organization called The Christophers to be a positive influence and pro-active force in the post-war world. The Christopher Films were intended to foster political honesty, business integrity, and compassion for the sick and the poor, and to be generally relevant to all faiths.

The Christophers Films Collection is part of the Gospel Films Archive, a multi-volume collection of rare and vintage Christian dramas and documentaries produced throughout the 20th century by independent Christian producers as well as major Hollywood studios. These vintage movies demonstrate how the Christian message was communicated to 20th century audiences through visual media. They also provide a heartwarming nostalgic experience that fans of classic movies will love. Though they are from a bygone era, these films often tackle subjects that remain surprisingly relevant for contemporary audiences.

You Can Change the World — 1954 – Christopher Films / 32m — Shortly following WWII an all-star Hollywood cast including Jack Benny, Rochester, Bing Crosby, Bob Hope, William Holden and Irene Dunn gather to hear Father James Keller discuss how Americans of all faiths and abilities have the power to individually change the world for the better.

A Link in the Chain — 1957 – Christopher Films / 27m — A retiring professor played by James Cagney questions his effectiveness as a teacher. In poignant career flashbacks, he learns just how relevant he was in stimulating and encouraging  his students to do what they can to “change the world.”

Government Is Your Business — 1952 – Christopher Films / 28m — Politics and religion take center stage in this film version of Father James Keller's best-selling book about an average man opposing political corruption in a small town.

2 of 5 Stars! Gospel Films Archive: Christopher Films Collection - DVDNancy M, 09/06/2015
This was three short films made in the 1950s about how little things done by a single individual can make a big difference in the lives of many. I enjoyed the James Cagney one but overall, I misjudged when I ordered this. Not what I expected but if you want a short walk back in time you might enjoy it.
4 of 5 Stars! Gospel Films Archive: Christopher Films Collection - DVDRichard and Linda D, 05/27/2015
Gospel Film Archive: Christopher Films Collection is a wonderful look into the lives of numerous, well-known stars of Hollywood and television, (while they might not have been born-again Christians, they displayed Christian beliefs and spoke positively of the Christian faith (Jack Benny, James Cagney, Ann Blyth, Eddie 'Rochester' Anderson, Irene Dunne, Loretta Young, William Holden, Paul Douglas, Bing Crosby, and Bob Hope)). You'll marvel at how positively Christians, and Christian beliefs, were viewed by the secular media, prior to the 70's. Enjoy!
