Mackenzie Allen Philips’ youngest daughter, Missy, has been abducted during a family vacation and evidence that she may have been brutally murdered is found in an abandoned shack deep in the Oregon wilderness. Four years later in the midst of his Great Sadness, Mack receives a suspicious note, apparently from God, inviting him back to that shack for a weekend.
Against his better judgment he arrives at the shack on a wintry afternoon and walks back into his darkest nightmare. What he finds there will change Mack's world forever.
In a world where religion seems to grow increasingly irrelevant The Shack wrestles with the timeless question, "Where is God in a world so filled with unspeakable pain?" The answers Mack gets will astound you and perhaps transform you as much as it did him. You'll want everyone you know to read this book!
William P. Young was born a Canadian and raised among a stone-age tribe by his missionary parents in the highlands of what was New Guinea. He suffered great loss as a child and young adult and has overcome a host of inner demons to live a fulfilled life in his 50's.
"When the imagination of a writer and the passion of a theologian cross-fertilize the result is a novel on the order of The Shack. This book has the potential to do for our generation what John Bunyan's Pilgrim's Progress did for his. It's that good!"Eugene Peterson, Professor Emeritus Of Spiritual Theology, Regent College, Vancouver, B.C.
"An exceptional piece of writing that ushers you directly into the heart and nature of God in the midst of agonizing human suffering. This amazing story will challenge you to consider the person and the plan of God in more expansive terms than you may have ever dreamed."David Gregory, author of Dinner with a Perfect Stranger
“I received a copy of The Shack during a very difficult transition in my life. The story has blown the door wide open to my soul and during this time I’ve asked many questions. It reminds me that though I ask, “Why?”, I know who is still in control.”Wynonna Judd, Recording Artist
The Shack is a one of a kind invitation to journey to the very heart of God. Through my tears and cheers, I have been indeed transformed.”Patrick M. Roddy, Emmy Award-winning producer, ABC News

It is disappointing that Christian cinema is carrying this heretical book... that portrays God as a woman and other unbiblical things..
In this book, "Mack" God the Father is "Papa," and displayed as an African-American woman; Jesus, a Jewish carpenter; and "Sarayu," an Asian woman who is revealed to be the Holy Spirit.... do you need anymore?
In the book \"Jesus\" (William Young\'s version of \"Jesus\") tells Mack: "Those who love me come from every system that exists. They were Buddhists or Mormons, Baptists or Muslims, Democrats, Republicans and many who don't vote or are not part of any Sunday morning or religious institutions." \"Jesus\" adds, "I have no desire to make them Christian, but I do want to join them in their transformation into sons and daughters of my Papa, into my brothers and sisters, my Beloved."
Very disappointing that Christian cinema is carrying such a movie.

One of the worst books trying to pass off as a"Christian" title. It is only a "New Age" writer's idea of what God and Jesus would be like to meet after terrible heartache. Quotes at the beginning of each chapter are not Christian (expect one by C.S. Lewis)...Kahlil Gibran...Albert Einstein and many others I have never heard of.
Really sad that this book was so popular in the Christian Community. God is our Lord and in Heaven, not "Papa" cooking up some breakfast for us and hanging out in a make-believe land.
The death of a child would take years and years, if not a lifetime, to come to "terms" with...not a couple of years.
It was also very, very boring and I had to put it down.
