The first teaser poster image from the upcoming "Mary, Mother of Christ" movie was released earlier this week.
The film, which according to IMDB, will open in theaters in December 2014, stars 16-year-old Israeli actress, Odeya Rush. She is joined by Ben Kingsley, who will play King Herod and Julia Ormond, who will play Mary's Cousin Elizabeth.
The movie also stars the recently deceased Peter O'Toole, who stars as Simeon, an aging prophet who the Bible states was promised by God to live until he saw the Messiah.
Australian filmmaker Alister Grierson will direct the film for Lionsgate.
In 2012, Texas-based megachurch pastor Joel Osteen, who has signed on as executive producer for the film, discussed claims that "profits from the film's script had been extorted from a Mexican businessman by money launderers and drug traffickers."
"I'd hate to see the movie held up because of all that," Osteen told The Denver Post. "It's out of my control. I just believe it will all work out."
The movie will open in a year that already has two potential Biblically-based blockbusters lined up. In March, Darren Aronofsky's "Noah," starring Russel Crowe, Jennifer Connelly and Emma Watson will premiere. The film, which has aggressively courted Jewish and Christian audiences, has also exceeded its $150 million budget, partially because of its reliance on digital effects.
In December, the story of Moses will hit the big screen once more in "Exodus." Christian Bale will play the title character, in the film which will be directed by Ridley Scott. The movie is currently filming and also stars Aaron Paul and Sigorney Weaver.
