Game Time: Tackling the Past, is another in the Family Movie Night series hosted, by Walmart and P&G. In this film, Jake Walker (played by Ryan McPartlin) has been a professional football player for ten years, playing for the Memphis Monarchs. He has a bionic knee, but holds numerous team and professional records. While in training camp, his possible replacement runs faster than he does, which concerns his coach. Candace, his agent, is aggressive in protecting his interests, so he is confident she will be able to convince management that he is in fine physical condition.
Frank Walker (played by Beau Bridges), is Jake’s father and has been coaching the Riverton High School football team for years. Dean Walker (played by Josh Braaten) is Jake’s brother, and as an adult, has been the Riverton High School assistant coach.
Events suddenly change, when Frank has a heart attack. Dean contacts Jake, and after several unanswered messages, convinces his brother to come home. Candace is asked to inform the team, which she does, but just before leaving for home (in North Carolina), Jake is dropped from the team roster, with Candace being tasked to find another team for which Jake can play.
Upon arriving home, Jake initially meets his former girlfriend, Sarah Tate (played by Katie Carr), which foreshadows their rekindled romance, throughout the balance of the film. She was a former dancer, but is now the high school performing arts teacher, as well as being the cheerleading coach. One of the funniest scenes has the football players learning finesse, by imitating the moves of the cheerleaders.
This is a family friendly movie that everyone will enjoy; so grab some popcorn, your favorite drink and relax! Enjoy!
