The "Shunning" was a very good storyline and had me in tears towards the end. However, I was VERY dissapointed the way the movie ended. The ending was very poor.
Another unsure part was when she went shopping to look like a normal english girl but what was the point? She went shopping and then we never saw her dressed again for no other occasion but to walk around the city with new clothes?!

My husband and I were deeply moved by The Shunning and had tears in our eyes toward the end.

I read all of Beverly Lewis's Books and love them all. I watch all of Michael Landon Jr.'s Movies and love them all. This was a good movie yet very difficult to follow as they did not start at her birth and move toward her future. They started in the now and then kept going back and forth. Unless you read her book, you would have a hard time figuring things out because the movie left out so many details. Would have been better if they would have started with her birth and moved ahead. Excellent directing and production.

The Shunning suffers from one major flaw, which requires viewers to suspend belief (as all films do) and believe that after all her years of living with individuals who she believed were her birth mother and father, Katie Lapp (played wonderfully by Danielle Panabaker) leaves her betrothed at the altar and alights in search of her true birth mother, all in a span of two-four days. This, in our opinion, is beyond the pale of reality, for an Amish woman. We hope you enjoy this film, but the suspension of belief was too great for us. Enjoy!

I must say the movie was not nearly as good as the book, although it was well casted and the acting was excellent.
The set and filming could have been more authentic.
Minor errors in details regarding the Amish lifestyle were a bit distracting, ie: a close up shot of Rebecca's hand with a wedding band. I wonder how much of the movie was reviewed by Beverly Lewis, because she is well aware that Amish do not wear wedding bands. The interior of the house was convincing but again, in one scene, Katie's bedroom was shown with a rack for clothing rather than pegs on the wall, the interior doors were shown as dirty around the knobs possibly to portray simplicity but Amish homes are known to be fastidiously clean.
I should have waited to read the book until after watching the movie, but all in all my husband and I enjoyed it.

This wonderfully filmed movie, directed by Michael Landon, Jr. is quite problematic in requiring viewers to suspend belief that an Amish girl (Katie Lapp, play by Danielle Panabaker), about to be married, would (essentially, but not entirely) forsake her entire upbringing to look for the woman who gave her up for adoption. This suspension of belief, additionally, is predicated upon a time arc of (and the film was not specific in this) two-four days. Easily the best performance was done by Sandra W. Van Natta, as Katie's mother (Rebecca Lapp). Typically, Hallmark films leave everyone in the room with tears in their eyes, but such was not the case with The Shunning. Enjoy (but be prepared to suspend belief early in the film)!
