I really enjoyed this movie and am purchacing a copy to add to my collection of good movies I can watch whenever I want and share with others. God somethimes does give a dramatic second chance but does not erase the consequences of wrong choices. Thank God for His mercy and forgiveness and desire to restore us to His good plans for our lives. Even though it is similar to A Wonderful Life, it is not just a clone of that story.

I was very hopefull for this movie however, the entire plot was almost an identical copy of family man with nicolas cage. The script is so similiar that I am surprised they were not sued for plagarism. i might have been okay with that in general if, the addition of christian principles had been better presented. Instead, it seemed obvious that the Christian aspects were superficial, secular and cultural at best. I don't know about Sorbo's faith beliefs, but based upon the movie he came across as flat and seemed to phone in the role. I was unable to connect to a Christian message as I felt neither Sorbo, or any of the other actors came across in my discernment as actually having a relationship with Christ that they could share with their viewers. As a whole, I prefer family man by far despite the rating and its admitted lack of appeal to faith.

I never saw Kevin Sorbo's show Hercules, but I remember seeing promos for it on occasion when I was a kid. Obviously, I am also familiar with John Ratzenberger who plays characters like Hamm in the Toy Story movies and Cliff from Cheers. I even remember Kristy Swanson who's been in movies like The Chase and Big Daddy; not exactly the most biblical roles she has had but I feel she's a decent actress. After recognizing these actors, receiving an email about this movie being released on DVD, and seeing it was available on Netflix I wanted to watch What if... for myself to see if it was any good.

In What if... Kevin Sorbo is Ben Walker, a successful businessman, who thinks he made all the right choices. After buying an expensive car, he goes out for a drive, but eventually his car breaks down and the airbag hits him on the head. When he wakes up he sees a tow truck driver who says he is an angel from God. The angel reveals Ben's life could have turned out differently had he kept his promise to return to his old sweet heart Wendy and had he decided to go into the ministry instead. Ben is transported into the alternate reality of being married to Wendy, having two daughters, living next door to the Little White Church (little cheesy, but some churches have that name too), and being the newly inducted Pastor of Little White Church. Obviously, it takes Ben a bit of time to adjust lol and others are a bit confused by his change in attitude.

I found it interesting while googling for information, I saw another review where they said What if... reminded them of the Nicholas Cage movie "The Family Man". From what I remember of that movie, I agree there are certainly similarities between those two films. I don't know if Kristy Swanson is a Christian, but I loved her response to her teenage daughter's complaining about going to church: 'if you can't start thanking Jesus for everything he's given you then maybe you should give somethings back like your cellphone' LOL; very funny yet so very true at the same time. Nothing personal against Kevin Sorbo, but he has this bassey voice which makes it difficult for me to understand at times, so during a few of his lines I had to turn up the volume... I appreciated the gospel message presented towards the end of the movie where Ben is talking to a dying man in a hospital bed. I was just thinking about the Laborers of the Vineyard Parable recently prior to that scene and it was well done in presentation. Overall I didn't find this to be a horrible movie. I felt it could have been better in some ways, but I do feel those who like movies similar to "The Family Man" will like this film too.

I agree with Sarah J. on her comment about inappropriate clevage. What a mistake, producers. Who are you trying to attract in your audience? Do you think I want my husband being tempted (while watching with me) a Christian movie that shows too low of a shirt and some cleavage? It is not tasteful, beautiful or anything else... Please enlighen us as to your thought process in showing a teenager with too tight of a shirt on. Clearly the producers wanted to portray her from a side view - movie goers would have to be oblivious not to notice her chest and desensitive to what is pure. Due to the blatant use of giving the male audience something extra to look at while watching a Christin movie - I rate it a 1.

Great movie. We were pleasantly SUPRISED!! It was a great family movie and I think every married couple should see it. Our church showed it at a couples nite, and it was fun, uplifting and restorative. Loved it!!!!!

The plot of this movie is the reverse of "It's a Wonderful Life. It has comedy, drama, a satisfying end and provokes thoughts about the decisions made in our lifetime. I particular like the scene where the main character witnesses to a dying man that has wasted his life. It was a very touching scene, answering one of my own questions about what to say to someone in those circumstances. We have Mighty God and his mercy endures forever! This movie is one that I will re-watch and learn from. dg

My husband and I loved this movie, it was by far the best christian movie we have seen. It was well put together and it makes you think about the choices we make in life and how it can impact our lives depending on what we choose. I highly recommend this movie!!!!

I was very excited about this movie. I happened to view it before my husband and sons. I was particularly disgusted at the really tight shirts that the teenage daughter was wearing in several scenes, especially in her first scene. She was quite voluptuous and it was really accentuated several times. And when the wife bent down her cleavage was showing (which is stated in other Christian movie reviews).I think the thing that was the real clencher is when I was watching the trailer and Kristy Swanson (the mother) kept going on and on...and on about Kevin Sorbo (the lead character/father) about how he was so this and so that and made her laugh and feel good etc... then Kevin walked up and put his arm on her chest below her collarbone (she had a very low cut shirt on). She said "Kevin, you are covering up the mic" and he said " I'm covering up something!" And she said "Kevin!" (bec he was being inappropriate! duh!) Then she went on to tell that her hubby and son were on the way.....Ok people I DO realize what day and age we live in. However, our family tries to be very careful about the movies we watch in our home. When I purchase a Christian movie, I expect the women to be covered appropriately and people to not act that (suggestively) familiar with each other on the trailers. We all experience enough of this behavior from the world, why are Christians doing this on camera for families to see? I suppose it is never safe to let your guard down even if it is called Christian or from a Christian bookstore....unless it is from Sherwood pictures (Facing the Giants, Fireproof etc..) For those who care, I hope this review helps and for those who don't care about what I am referring to in my review, just disregard this.

We can not hear this kind of story to often because tells us we are all important and can do wonderful things in this world when we are walking in "His" plan for our lives. Kevin Sorbo, John Ratzenberger, Debby Ryan, and Kristy Swanson form a wonderful comedic cast (yes, comedic) in this powerful Christian drama (OK, call it a dramedy (drama + comedy) if you will). This film is all about the choices one makes in life, with the twist that Ben (Kevin Sorbo) is actually living in two different realities (one in which he is a secular superstar and the other in which he is a pastor). Make sure you don't miss Mike (the Angel) asking Ben to count back from 100, as it is a laugh riot. Enjoy!

My family, husband, daughter, and son, enjoyed this movie tremendously. The story line is easy to follow, but with a slight 'twist' at the end which is quite touching. My body-builder hunky husband had tears in his eyes...it affected us all.

Please go to see this movie in your local theater...support Christ centered movies, and invite your friends. They won't leave the theater with any doubt about what it takes to have eternal life...it is clearly spelled out in this film.

Thank you for creating a family-focused, Christ-Centered movie for the general public!
