I watched this film because a youth pastor recommended it. I hate it.The movie is not about Jesus. It is about war, romance, magic, and power. I've heard from several Christians that "although the movie is not Christian by any stretch, it shows that the bad is bad and the good is good" That is a lie because a sorcerer, Gandolf, is on the good side! Sorcerey is a sin and back in Bible times people that practiced magic were put to death. Jesus did not use magic. He has power because he is God. He heals, he answers prayer, and avenges the innocent. He is God that holds the earth together and gives us our every breath; but those who practice magic, do not get their power from God, but Satan.
In the movie, Aragon's girlfriend told him something like - the power of her people would protect Frodo. People do not naturally have power. They must get it from God or Satan.
Why do Christians promote a movie such as this? I do not understand. We rail against abortionists or muderers, but we condone witchcraft. We find enjoyment in watching things that do no good. Satan is not going to present us with something ugly; but something appealing. He wraps magic and war up in a " good acting", "action packed",
" on the edge of your seat" film. And we fall for it. This is devastating because it produces Christians that compromise and that are shallow. If you enjoy this film, I ask you to look at the other films you like to watch. Are they God honoring, do they inspire you to live your faith? Or do they just waste time and cause damage to your personal relationship with God? Christians should not enjoy worldly films and other worldly things. Remember we live in this world but we should not be of this world. People should see Christ through what we do, how we talk, and what we enjoy watching or listening to. "for where your treasure is, there will your heart be also" Matthew 6:21. I hope that someone will find this review to be helpful.
