Stock Status: In Stock Updated: 5/24/2013 2:49pm PDT Description:Even saints have a past London-based investigative journalist Robert Torres [Dougray Scott] travels to Spain to research a book about Josemaria Escriva, the controversial founder of Opus Dei. But he hits a wall, both professionally and personally, when his most promising source - his own father - turns out to be the least cooperative. Robert begins to unravel his father Manolo's toxic secrets when he learns that Manolo was not only born in the same Spanish town as Josemaria, but that they were childhood friends who attended the same seminary. As young adults, the two men take radically different paths in life. Josemaria dedicates his life to his faith, while Manolo is swept into the brutal and tumultuous Civil War. As Robert continues to unearth the secrets of Josemaria's life and Manolo's mysterious anger, their overlapping journeys are revealed. ChristianCinema.com Store asked: Why did you choose this? Maria F: This movie was recommended to me by my daughter and I also have seen a preview of it which looked impressive. Jan 17, 2013 Carolyn M: I have been trying to locate this movie to purchase after hearing about it from Wes Bentley's father, my pastor. I can't wait to see it. I am so glad I found this website! Jan 30, 2012 Elise B: Saw the film at the cinema and purchased a few copies of the dvd as I would love to share it with my friends and they'll make great gifts. Jan 11, 2012 Nora F: I saw it in the theatres and was impressed with the story and cinematography--much more so than other movies. I felt that it was poorly attended because it was a Christian film and want to support the making of good Christian films by purchasing the dvd.
I will enjoy watching this movie again as well. Oct 22, 2011 A shopper asked: Is this movie too violent for my 13 yo son? Jun 14, 2012 Freda M: No, I don't think it is too violent because, although there is some violence portrayed, none of it is "gratuitous, none of it is sensationalized, and none of it is the "point" of the movie. There is an accurate portrayal of the historical violence (shootings and beatings, esp. of priests), during the Spanish civil war when there was close fighting in the streets of Spain. The point -- or moral of the movie -- is that fighting and betrayal are NOT the way that Jesus taught us to resolve our differences. The "right" and the "left" in Spain hate one another so badly that they're killing each other in the streets for political gain and political power. St. Josemaria shows his followers that hatred only begets more hatred and the real way to resolve hatred is through personal penance, charity, forgiveness and obedience to the Lord. 13 years old is a great age for this movie -- as is any age. This could easily be a true story. I look at it as a powerful story of deep love and how it can change people and drive them to do things from a motive of love............but perhaps misguided. You'll likely see this same thing on America's streets before to long. Aug 20, 2012 Reply to Thomas W Good answer? What may be far more disturbing are priests being lined up and shot and a friend shooting the woman he's loved who doesn't return his affection at close range.
It's a very interesting story about which direction in life to take is correct when the only true road is following Christ and some people never accept this. Jul 12, 2012 Reply to Nora Good answer?
