If you could have anything you wanted, what would YOU wish for?

Suffering from the loss of his only child, Stanley has secluded himself in a dark and lonely place. Sullen and without hope, he continues to hide from and neglect those he loves despite their attempts to reach out to him.

In what seems to be the final days of their already strained marriage, his wife Lisa is presented with a strange gift; an old oil lamp from a far off land. Along with the lamp comes a mysterious messenger and a question that causes them to search the depths of their hearts for what's truly important in life...

Excellent acting, writing & filming. There are deep moments of anguish, though nothing graphic or outright violent. There are also lighthearted, comical moments. Louis Gossett Jr., as always, is delightful. Even the dog is a talented actor. I highly recommend this film. Someone (another review) mentioned inappropriate clothing, but I didn't notice any such thing. True, God was not mentioned, but the overall message was one of hope, thankfulness and giving to others.

Frances S asked: Does the movie ultimately have a Christian theme relating to Jesus ultimately providing happiness and the answers or is it mostly about this lamp and its messenger that provides the answers? Jun 14, 2011

Tracy T: Frances as the Writer and Director of The Lamp it was my goal to convey the healing power that God has given us through his word. You hear Charles The Messenger say to the grieving parents "All things are possible if you Just Believe" That is the theme that runs through the entire movie. This statement is true because God says it is true and when we believe this truth, and apply it to our lives then we are able to change our lives because we are first willing to believe. I hope this helps with your question. Feb 23, 2012

Joe J: Frances, the movie is more of a parable about the gift we have been given to be able to transform our lives by the renewing of our mind as Romans 12:2 says. It is not an evangelical film, but can be used to cause others to ask questions that you can then answer for them. Hope that helps! Sep 21, 2011

Ronda G: I think it brings the family back to God and a faith in something or someone greater than themselves. The lamp simply sets things in motion, enabling an "angel" to enter the lives of this family. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and its message...very heartwarming. Jan 17, 2012
