Description:

For every season, there is a time to hurt a time to heal a time to triumph.

When 15-year-old Luke Abbate (Stefan Guy) is killed in a tragic car accident, the loss leaves his close-knit family reeling with grief. Fueled by faith and their deep familial bond, the Abbates try to rebuild their lives without Luke, fulfilling his wish to help others by donating his organs to save the lives of five other people. But despite the support of loving friends and family, his death leaves a void in their lives that threatens to tear the family apart.

Struggling with the devastating loss, Luke’s older brother Jon (Ryan Merriman), a gifted football player at Wake Forest University, decides to honor his brother’s memory and love for the game by dedicating the 2006 season to him. With the added motivation of “playing for two,” he dons Luke’s beloved No. 5 jersey and inspires his teammates to play the best football of their lives—and become the most improved team in America. Predicted to finish last in their division, the Wake Forest football team surpassed all expectations by winning an unforgettable championship season.

A tribute to the power of hope and love, THE 5TH QUARTER is an inspiring true story about a family coming together to rally a team, a school and a community to achieve more than they could ever have been imagined.

Inspiring and intense performances throughout by all cast members.
Starring Aidan Quinn & Andie MacDowell as Luke's parents.

Liked the movie - good acting and story -- BUT I was disappointed that nothing was said about what happened to the other guys in the accident. It just seemed incomplete.

We were disappointed in this movie overall. It had a dramatic, heart-wrenching storyline and it appeared the family was a God-believing family;however, it was so disappointing to hear God's name taken in vain several times throughout the movie.

In addition, it wasn't an uplifting , encouraging movie because it didn't show the hope we have as believers in Christ. It talked about the son being in Heaven, but it seemed like the family members left behind tried worldly methods alone to work through their grief, and didn't show them as individuals or as a family going to scripture or praying for God's help, comfort, and guidance. In the end, I didn't even know if the mother or father really worked through the grief? It seemed like football rather than God was the cement that held them together.

I couldn't tell whether the story's goal was to promote organ donation or to talk about the history of Wake Forest football during this tragic time. Unfortunately, it didn't give God the glory for helping His people in time of need.

I wouldn't recommend this movie, but would HIGHLY recommend "COURAGEOUS" for those who want to see a movie that is God-honoring and shows people working through grief with God's help.

It was an okay film. It was good at the beginning and then just got boring. They did use God's name in vain several times.

Joy D: The word "crap" is heard about 3 to 4 times throughout the movie. Other than that, no inappropriate language. There is a scene where boyfriend and girlfriend exchange a lip smacking kiss...longer than I would've liked to see with my 11 year old watching. Oct 1, 2011
