Does it appeal mostly to adults or geared toward children as well. My son (9) does not like to be emotionally exhausted. Oct 17, 2011 John L: It is family friendly, more so than I imagined it could be based on the book, but it do have some complex psychological issues that is considered for adults more than kids. The biological father, Rip, is in the book more of an abusing psychopath but in the movie he is more kind and trying but has some issues of anger management because of his past, and is somewhat unpredictable. The fact that you have to emphatize with both sets of parents, and that you do not know how to judge the unpredictable Rip, can make the movie "emotionally exhausting" to young children, and thus I agree with the PG-13 rating. It does not contain much bad language and is a clean movie all together. MPAA states that it's "Rated PG-13 for mature thematic material including domestic violence and alcohol abuse" Oct 17, 2011 Reply to John Good answer? Yes (0) No (0) Anthony T: My wife and I adopted my son when he was 3 years old. He came to us as foster parents since this was the only way we could adopt. We already had 5 biological daughters and we were told in would be near impossible to adopt a child. He came to us when he was 20 months old and from that time until he was 3 years old we were in a constant battle with Social Services who wanted to return him to his alcoholic ,abusive parents. Needless to say Like Dandelion Dust was like re-living our experience, so we thoroughly enjoyed it. As far as being child friendly I have second thoughts since it was a little violent at times. Overall I thought it was a story that some adoptive parents experience and it was real. Oct 17, 2011 Reply to Anthony Good answer? Yes (0) No (0) Cheryl H: I felt that the movie was geared more toward adults. It tugs on the heartstrings pretty strongly, albeit it very well written and acted. It's not a movie that you can watch over and over within a short period of time, as it is very thought provoking and emotionally strong. That being said, you will experience highs and lows like you never had. Oct 17, 2011 Reply to Cheryl Good answer? Yes (0) No (0) Roger R: This movie I would not recommend for children, it's highly emotional! If you haven't watched "Secrets of Jonathan Sperry", I would buy or rent that one instead. That movie was fabulous and great for kids and adults. Oct 17, 2011 Reply to Roger Good answer? Yes (0) No (0) Linda M: This is a very emotional movie with a stong theme of forgiveness. A few of the scenes might be too disturbing and or emotional for a nine year old. Oct 17, 2011 Reply to Linda Good answer? Yes (0) No (0) Tiphaine W: it is a movie more for an adult audience and with more adult based emotional themes. I think a 9 yr old would find it a bit boring. (Biologically) Jul 22, 2012 Cheryl H: Now, I have to assume that by you asking this question that the answer won't be a spoiler alert in your mind. What if I told you that part of the I intrigue of the film is who the real parents are? So, you will just have to watch to find out. Oh, and by the way, have a box of tissues nearby and enjoy. Jul 22, 2012 Reply to Cheryl Good answer? Yes (0) No (0) Angie J: Biologically the boy belongs to the poor people, however legally the rich people have adopted him and so therefore he now belongs to them. You might check with the international distributor for the film to see if there is a German version they are releasing: http://missionpicsintl.com/filmdetails/like-dandelion-dust May 23, 2011 Reply to Jared Good answer? I watched the movie last night and was very moved by it. The acting was superb by everyone especially Mira Sorvino, **Barry Pepper, Kate Levering, Cole Hauser and *Maxwell Perry Cotton. For a boy of his age, Maxwell captured the total essence of the part he was playing and for some of scenes you would really believe his emotions. I've not read the book but I did watch the Special Features and what Karen Kingsbury said about the movie I think it is very close to the original story. I really don't want to spoil the movie for you but I will say that it will pull at hour heart strings, as the saying goes and if you are anything like me, you will get totally immersed into the story and you will feel the pain of both mothers and fathers and of their son. I'm sure there are similar true stories out in the world just like this one, and so which ever way the court decides people are going to be hurt in the process. I wish "Like DANDELION Dust" had come to Canada so I could've seen it on the BIG screen but it didn't and so I had to wait until it was released on DVD. I've been waiting for it for over 5 months but I will say the wait was worth it. It's an excellent movie which I'm sure you will enjoy, but be prepared for the emotional ups and downs. Ian W. So I can't answer your question about the film. I did read the book, however. I don't know if the movie version followed the book; I would assume it was pretty close. I'm eagerly anticipating the arrival of my DVD...then I'll be able to answer your question better! Wishing you a wonderful, blessed Christmas. Dec 15, 2010 Reply to Kellis Good answer? I do however, have a comment on the book. I loved it . I cried for the little boy as well as his adoptive parents. If you haven't read it I reccomend it.
