A remake of the 1951 classic sci-fi film about an alien visitor and his giant robot counterpart who visit Earth.

The 2008 remake stars Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, Jennifer Connelly as Helen Benson, Jaden Smith as Jacob, and Kathy Bates as the United States Secretary of Defense, and Jon Hamm as a government scientist.

Upgraded technology (including nanotechnology) for the spacecraft, Klaatu's spacesuit, and Gort are highlights of this remake, and where the original focused on the threat of nuclear war, this remake addresses environmental concerns.

In the original movie, a flying saucer orbits Earth, and lands in Washington, DC, on the Mall. Klaatu (Michael Rennie), an alien who came to warn Earth of its imminent destruction, is accompanied by Gort (Lock Martin), an indestructible robot.

Patricia Neal had a co-starring role as a mother who befriends Klaatu and utters the phrase that will keep Gort from destroying Earth.
