The story of Jesus' life as recounted by His disciple John, this three-hour epic feature film draws its audience into antiquity by way of meticulous recreation, including an original musical score complete with instrumental sounds of the time. This ambitious motion picture follows the Gospel precisely, neither adding to the story from other Gospels, nor omitting complex passages. Narrated by renowned Canadian actor Christopher Plummer with a distinguished cast from Canada and the United Kingdom selected primarily from Canada's prestigious Stratford Festival and Soulpepper Theatre Company, as well as Britain's Royal Shakespeare Company and Royal National Theatre , it features British actor Henry Ian Cusick in the seminal role of Jesus Christ. John is the best-loved but least understood of the gospels, presenting a uniquely human portrait of Jesus. Intimate and reflective, The Gospel Of John provides audiences with an unparalleled opportunity to understand the tumultuous period in history at the time of Jesus Christ. The Matthew video series broke new ground by offering the first-ever dramatic portrayal of events in the Bible, presented word for word from the best-selling New International Version® (NIV) translation. This title features the laughing Jesus., starrring Bruce Marchiano. Join with the physician Luke (Dean Jones), as he tells the enthralling story of danger, struggles and triumph that marks the birth of the Christian church. Share the times of mystery and wonder that follow the resurrection of Jesus. Walk with the risen Lord. Watch as He is taken up into heaven. Experience the transforming power of Pentecost and catch the fire as God uses the passion of Peter (James Brolin) and John (Andre Jacobs) to send the flame of faith racing throughout Jerusalem and around the world. Luke's powerful narrative brings to vivid life the compassionate love that unites believers across the ages. The tremendous popularity of this video series has given new understanding and a new perspective to the world's best-selling book, the Bible. Latest Reviews for Visual Bible: The Complete Set - DVD(View all 34 reviews)(no written review given) Seeing and hearing the Bible will deepen your personal relationship with Jesus has His powerful word. A pastor friend lent us these dvd's to watch. This set is a great learning tool, we have read these chapters in the bible and to have a video history really makes your understanding grow. We love that they go verse by verse in the bible. Now we wanted a set of our own so we can watch them anytime we wish. (no written review given) Great movie to watch. EXELENT AND BLESSFUL STORY.5 This movie is great! The only problem with it is that half way through the movie Mary Magdelene shows up as one of the disciples and the camera seems to focus on her. She would not have been in the upper room where Jesus and the twelve meet for the last supper, and she would not have been present in the Garden on the night of betrayal, but other than that it is an excellent word for word reading of the Gospel of John. The characters are all wonderful (even Mary Magdelene) but I especially liked the idea that they used people who were not "Hollywood" a types. Peter is very believable as is the other apostles. Jesus is superbly acted and I wished that other "Jesus" actors would learn from this guy - very believable!. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Gospel of John does just that! After watching this Visual Bible series, I felt it was okay. I was grateful that this Visual Bible series used the NIV Bible, but I didn't particularly care for the actor that portrayed "Jesus" in this one - but the other actors/actresses were pretty good. In all, I guess it's okay viewing, but I have to just overlook the actor who portrayed "Jesus". Overall, I like having Visual Bible because it does make it very interesting to actually kind of "see" everything acted out (as much as possible). I would love it if they could make one on the book of Mark & Luke. After viewing this video, I feel it's fair to give it 3 stars. I really liked the guy that portrayed "Jesus" in this Visual Bible series. I felt that he did pretty good and the other actors/actresses were good as well. I am not a fan for the particular Bible translation that was used in this DVD. I really only like the NKJV or the KJV. In some cases I don't mind the NIV. But the New American Bible I don't care for. Outside of the version they used, I felt that all in all it was a DVD worth watching. I ordered this nearly 2 years ago, and have viewed this DVD many times. It is such a wonderful portrayal of Jesus and Matthew as it is acted out. I am ordering this version now for my grandson "Matthew" who has been called into the Ministry. What better gift could I give him? This is a must see for everyone. Jesus is so believeable, so much feeling seen on His face. The acting is so real. It's top notch in my DVD Library. ChristianCinema.com Store asked: Why did you choose this? Nona B: Have been wanting the Acts DVD for some time and am thrilled to be able to get the other ones............. Apr 4, 2013 Lynne S: The Visual Bible was recommended by our pastor. My husband and I are doing a study of the Acts, and wanted to follow-up with the movie. By getting the complete set, I'm paying only $4 more than if I purchased just Acts and Matthew. I will give the John DVD away to a friend or to our church library. Dec 27, 2011 Courtney R: This series is very helpful for anyone who might be having a difficult time connecting with the text. Now everytime I read these books I automatically pictures scenes from these DVDS. The best thing is they are word for word the Bible. They leave nothing out nor add anything. I actually follow along in my Bible sometimes as I watch the DVDs. The problem with some Bible films is they just want to sum up the stories an give you their interpretations while this set is completely unbiased. Dec 22, 2011 Karen E: Have seen Matthew already. Wonderfully done. Chose to buy Acts and John as well Dec 9, 2011 Susan G: My dad is ill and always thought reading the Bible was "scary." After he watched the Matthew DVD he has been asking inquiring questions regarding the Bible and he loved the DVD. I cant think of a better way to spend time in the word than watching it unfold in front of your eyes. Jul 20, 2011 Steve B: I AM SATISFIED WITH THE PRICES AND THE RELIABILITY OF ALL THE DVD'S I WANT AND WILL CONTINUE TO SHOP HERE THANKS YOU ARE GREAT...PLUS I LOVE THE GOSPEL OF JOHN BECAUSE IS THE BIBLE ACTED AS WRITTEN WORD FOR WORD I RECOMEND IT: STEVE'O B. May 3, 2011 Frank M: Saw Gospel of John and Acts thought they were both excellent since they use word for word to the scriptures. Jan 20, 2011 Donalie B: Excellent. I am waiting for more Books of the Bible to come out! Quality/acting/production excellent - you will like it! Dec 27, 2009 A shopper asked: When making this movie, did they change any of the words from the bible, or did they keep it as written in the KJV...holloywood has done a pretty good job in screwing up the bible when making bibical movies which deceive people who don't really know what is really in the bible. They somhow manage to get off track of what the scriptures are saying and changes them into their own way which is a form of deception... Which bible is used in making this movie, such as the KJV which seem to be the only bible that hasn't been doctorin on and water down like most of your new bibles...we love christian movies but it is really hard to find a movie that sticks straight with word for words of the bible...Jesus warns of lying and He is the truth and when we changes the scriptures than we change the word of God and the bible in revelation the last chapter say that if we add or take away from the scriptures that the same will be done to us, which is not good....thanks? Mar 21, 2012 Carol S: None of these are based on KJV text. From the back of the DVD cases for Acts and for Matthew it states "Scripture Text taken from the Holy Bible, New International Version." It also states "NIV text edited for screenplay by permission of International Bible Society." We teach the Book of Acts during 9 months of our 4th grade Sunday School class and once a month we play this DVD for the relevant chapters that we have studied as a review of our material at the end of class. It seems to be a pretty close representation of the NIV text if not exact and aids in retention of what we've studied and provides a good visual way to review and discuss the book of Acts. The Gospel of John DVD case states "...adapted for the screen, word for word, based on the American Bible Society's Good News Bible." We have occasionally played this one wtih our Juvenile Ministry at the jail and had discussions. Many of these kids struggle to read so it helped with getting the message to them. Mar 21, 2012 Reply to Carol Good answer? Yes (0) No (0) Gerald S: I would rate the Matthew video as excellent, Acts as very good and John as good. Matthew and Acts are word for word from the "New International Version" Bible, which is one of the best. We use short bits during worship services from time to time. They are well received. The Gospel of John dvd has word for word based on the American Bible Society;s Good News Bible. We put subtitles on this and the dialog was word for word. We really enjoyed all the movies but found The Gospel of John to be our favorite. The Gospel of John was made in 2003 and is 3 hours long. Very well done. My children watched this in school and brought it to our attention. We borrowed it from a friend and ended up purchasing it. Hope this helps. Mar 21, 2012 Reply to Richard Good answer?
