Discover the fascinating story behind the preservation of the greatest Book in human history
“The Forbidden Book” is unlike anything you have ever seen before. Hosted by Dr. Craig Lampe, this one-hour documentary takes you on a fascinating journey through time. Follow our film crew across Europe as we SHOW YOU all the important places of Christian history.
Learn how God’s Word was originally scribed in Hebrew and Greek. Walk with Dr. Lampe among the ruins of the very first Christian Church ever built above ground… not in Israel, but in England! Discover how the Word was preserved through the 1,000 year period of the Dark and Middle Ages, when possession of scripture in any language other than Latin meant certain death at the hands of the organized church. Uncover the truth about the misunderstood books called “Apocrypha” that were printed in every Protestant Christian’s Bible until 1885.
Meet John Wycliffe, the first person to translate the Bible into English… and see his church, which is still offering Sunday services today, as it has since the 1300’s. Look at the door where Martin Luther, the first person to print the Bible in German, nailed his 95 Theses, starting the Protestant Reformation. See William Tyndale’s illegal printing shop, which is a book store today, and find out why Tyndale was executed for being the first person to print the scriptures in English. Find out about the 1535 first complete printed English Bible of Myles Coverdale, the 1537 Matthews Bible, and King Henry the Eighth’s 1539 “Great Bible” …the first legal English Bible.
Learn why the Bible of the Protestant Reformation, the 1560 English Geneva Bible, had to be printed in Switzerland due to the reign of Queen “Bloody” Mary. See how the 1568 Bishops Bible was revised to become the 1611 King James Bible, and how the King James version slowly replaced the much more popular Geneva Bible among early American Colonists.
“The Forbidden Book” is simply the most captivating and informative video ever produced on the subject of how we got the Bible, and how God has preserved His Word for thousands of years to countless generations.

The Forbidden Book: The History Of The English Bible - DVD – Danna Whitlock C, 01/11/2014
This was worth the time to set through it twice today. As a Christian it is very encouraging to watch documentaries which give so much history about what we as Christians treasure so much, GOD'S WORD. My husband made the statement after watching this, How amazingly God has kept his Word down through history, so we could have it today.
Yes, I agree for such a time as this, As believer of Jesus Christ we know the truth has not been lost in the translating, it is confirmed in God's Children. I would like to end this review with this thought. And the word was made flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory; the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.Blessed are those that believe, yet have not seen.

Very well done and informative. The shame of the Catholic church is honestly told. A must see for serious Bible students-all Christians.

Overall a pretty good documentary. A little dry from time to time.
The Forbidden Book: The History Of The English Bible - DVD – Brian M, 07/26/2009
This film is really poorly researched. It is full of errors. Wycliffe was not the first to translate the bible into english. We have fragments of english/anglo saxon translations dating back to the eighth century. Luther also was not the first to translate the german bible there were many translations before his. This is also a very onesided documentary it does not account for things like when the roman empire collapsed education did as well so the few people who could read did so in latin. it was not considered old fashioned to write in latin into the eighteenth century. The reformers did much more than bring the "true christian religion" back. They made alliances with kings and queens and started revolts against the established church. There are far better and more fact filled histories of the bible than this. It is at best ignorance of history and at worst anti-catholic bigotry.

If you are like me and have a desire for true historical knowledge but lack the time required to dig through manuscripts, this documentary is for you! In one short hour, "The Forbidden Book" explores the history of the Bible from the penning of Genesis through modern times. I have watched it several times already and have learned something new each time. It is definitely edifying to the believer but also a unique witnessing tool for friends and loved one whom you desire to come to the truth of the knowledge and love of Jesus Christ.
