Latest Reviews for Hand in Hand - DVD(no written review given) Hand In Hand, starring Loretta Parry (playing Rachel) and Phillip Needs (playing Michael), a 1961 film shot in glorious black-and-white, will captivate viewers with its innocence of childhood, which in our modern society, is often lost to the rumblings of social media (a medium through which people communicate distantly from one another, rather than on a face-to-face basis). Watch Michael’s face, as he joins with other boys in taunting Rachel for stumbling: First, he enjoys the merriment (for the boys) of taunting; then, he notices the distress on Rachel’s face; finally, understanding that he is causing hurt to another, he back away from the taunting group, grabs Rachel and rescues her. Thus begins the second act of this delightful film. The third act begins with Michael being told that the Jews killed Christ. How this resolves forms the crux of the film, but be assured that in 1961, films ended on a positive note (Romans, actually, were the ones who crucified Christ, and not the Jews. Pontius Pilate could have said “no,” but the Holy Scripture had to be fulfilled.). Enjoy! First, these children are indeed innocent and purely accepting of one another, but this is an old movie. They are from a simpler time when playing outside and loving one another as close friends came from a different kind of heart; a heart that was clean and without guile. In the Bible, God said that His children "have no guile" and these 2 children have no guile. They love one another and both love God. When the adults (who supposedly have more knowledge than the children) say that the "Jews" killed Christ, the boy who is Catholic takes offense and decides to confront his little girl friend, who is Jewish. She tells him she did not kill Christ and that she didn't even know who Christ is. They both decide to check on each other's religions because their friendship and love for one another is important to them. They simply want to see the truth of it all and to continue to be friends. Acceptance is wonderfully taught here. Then, a little adventurous tragedy happens which helps to unite both faiths. The tale is the very simplicity that Christ teaches about loving one another. In this particular story, I love the fact that the God of Abraham, Moses and Isaac IS the same God and Father whose Word became flesh. Hand in Hand - DVD Sort by:
