Nov 26, 2010 Holly S: i found fireproof a fantastic movie with real-life situations that almost anyone can relate to, mixing in enough humor while maintaining a strait forward message. the couple in the movie are not very religious either in the onset of the story, but a clear message of salvation & Christ being the answer to any problem begins to unfold, while addressing a common ''objection'' that so many people have today--that He's not really relevant to their life. if you have it on your heart to reach out to your friends, this movie can definitely sew seeds that could make a real difference, not only in their marriage, but in their spiritual journey as well! some of the issues dealt with include: * the progression of growing apart & hearts growing cold as a result of selfishness, inward focus & little time spent togethe * financial tension & disagreement * pornography which is clearly fueling mutual lack of respect * flattery that begins to lead to potential adultery or justification for divorce * the positive influence/advice of godly people which encourages reconciliation vs. the negative influence/advice of "self-directed" people that further encourages selfish thinking & decision-making * the test of vulnerability & swallowing pride, even in the face of rejection & hardheartedness it's a well-told story with both entertainment, as well as the eternal, value, worth the purchase in an effort to restore life & love back into your friends marriage (& hopefully bring Christ into their hearts as well)!! As long as we focus only on our personal needs, we are tossed with the fluctuations of our temperamental expectations of each other, and the solution evades us. God's presence is what makes a relationship work. It's as simple as that. The movie is all about how partners in a covenant marriage before God can take steps to seriously see their spouse through God's eyes and see the miraculous transformation that follows. There is also a faith-based theme in the film, and in fact the couple starts off as agnostic but by the end, let Christ into their lives and into their marriage. The turning point in the film is when the man's father challenges him to take the "40 day love dare" to work on his marriage. And the most important, it presents Jesus like the way to resolve matrimony problems, through accepting him as Saviour and Lord. The only thing that may be debatable is that in a short part of the movie one of the characters tells that he divorced and remarriged. This point is controversial, but not dull the rest of the film. It focuses more on how we need to prefer our spouses needs over our own and how to be kind and considerate and do the things you did when you were first dating.
