Based on the true story of a ragtag team from Monterrey, Mexico, that won the 1957 Little League® World Series, The Perfect Game might be the feel-good movie of the year for family audiences. Despite a total lack of resources, their parents' disapproval, and widespread prejudice, the boys win their way from Texas across the United States to Pennsylvania, where they defy the odds to play in the Little League® World Series.
What sustains them? Their religious faith, an encouraging warm-hearted priest (played by Cheech Marin), and their love of the game. Coached by Cesar (Clifton Collins, Jr.), who wanted to coach in the major leagues, but couldn't because of discrimination, the boys enjoy an incredible winning streak on their way to the series.
The baseball team is portrayed by some of Hollywood's experienced young talent: Moises Arias (Hannah Montana, Nacho Libre), Jake T. Austin (Everyone's Hero, Go, Diego, Go!), and Jansen Panettiere (Ice Age: The Meltdown, Robots). We're also treated to cameos and supporting roles from veterans Louis Gossett, Jr. (Left Behind: World at War, Deceived) and Bruce McGill (Elizabethtown, Vantage Point).
With a great cast and great story, it's sure to be a home run.
As of this writing, the release date is uncertain. When it becomes definite, we'll post an update.
