"Set Apart" Coming to DVD on September 22 John Schneider (Hidden Secrets, The Dukes of Hazzard), Richard Roundtree (Shaft) and Jennifer O'Neill (The Summer of '42) star in Set Apart, a new release from Power in Faith productions. Set Apart is based on two real-life ministries run by brothers John and Randy Gunn. John Gunn's ministry, Power Company Kids' Club, reaches out to underprivileged inner city kids, and Randy Gunn's GunnPoint is a ministry using music and sharpshooting to reach out to cowboys.
The Story Behind the Story When producer Brad Wilson (Believers Among Us) heard Randy and Heidi Gunn perform with their band at a Christian music festival, he was intrigued by their connection with the Power Company Kids' Club. Wilson's company Hemisphere Productions had just launched a new production arm called Power in Faith that was looking for ideas for faith-based films.
The idea of connecting an inner-city kids' ministry and a cowboy ministry intrigued Wilson, and he saw the potential for a story about the interaction of these two remarkable ministries. The script was written by George Flynn, who has served with Randy and Heidi Gunn for years.
Synopsis Four city kids who know only the cunning and deceit needed for urban survival have one advocate: Pastor John Gunn (John Schneider). He's aware that in the race for their souls, the city is about to win. Desperate for something to change, he asks his brother and sister-in-law Randy and Heidi Gunn (playing themselves) to transport these kids to their home and teach them "the Cowboy way."
From hanging out with gangs and being recruited into prostitution to cleaning stalls and competing on horseback, the kids experience a new way of life and a chance to start over. Set Apart combines the excitement of the modern West with the fun of contemporary comedy.
