Synopsis Letters to God is the story of a young boy coping with cancer and the amazing impact his faith in God makes on the people in his community. Tyler Doherty (Maguire) transcends his pain with the assurance that God will look out for his family and friends. His letters to God demonstrate how simple it is to pray, and give him a certainty that his pure faith and unselfish love will be his legacy.
One of the people most touched by Tyler’s letters is Brady McDaniels (Johnson), a beleaguered U.S. postal worker struggling with alcohol and divorce. Frustrated with what to do with the letters he picks up from Tyler’s mailbox, Brady shoves them in his pocket where they stay until suddenly he is faced with the biggest crisis of his life. He reads the letters he so carelessly stashed away and the miracle of Tyler’s handwritten talks with God give him hope and the courage to change his life.
Tom Swanson is executive producer and Kim Dawson is producer. The screenplay is written by Patrick Doughtie (Tyler’s father), who is also co-directing, and Art D’Allessandro (The Final Season, She Drives Me Crazy), co-producer Sandra Thrift (The Rivalry, Making Waves) and first time screen writer Cullen Douglas. Rob Micai (For Mother and Country, Fear Everything) is also co-producing with supervising producer Wayne Morris (Rush Hour, Miami Vice). The director of photography is Bob Scott (Fireproof, Facing the Giants). The production is designed by Mark Garner (Beethoven’s Big Break, The Notebook) with costume designs by Beverly Safier (The Way Back Home, Sydney White).
The film is currently in production in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios Florida - Stage 25, the Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital, Give Kids the World and various locations in and around Winter Garden, Florida.
Letters to God will be released to over 1000 screens in first quarter of 2010. |
