Theatrical Release:

Limited Theatrical Release - A bluesman and his singing partner/wife fall on hard times and are set to lose their home and blues club to the bank. From all the stress his wife has a stroke, falls into a coma, and he leaves the Mississippi Delta for Chicago to land a record contract to save everything back home. The record contract collapses. Prepared to give it all up and just freeze in an Illinois snow bank one night, he is discovered by two young musicians, who have also fallen on hard times. They decide to help him get back home. Unknown to all is that the spirit of the blues man's wife has somehow managed to intervene in their destiny on the road back south, her angel presence saving them from one catastrophe after another and guiding them to a young rapper who joins the circus and viralizes a video of them playing from town to town...By the time they arrive at the bank auction, they have the money to save the club...and to make that record they've all been dreaming about. This is a story about persistence and overcoming obstacles...and keeping faith.

Dove Worldview:
Sammy Blue gives a remarkable performance in this movie as IB King, a blues singer who can flat out sing and play the guitar. He lives at and runs a bar and is far behind in making the payments on the place. He tells his wife, Lilly (Rita Graham) that there's no way they will lose the place, but then the law shows up to force them both out. The stress is too much for Lilly and she winds up in the hospital with a stroke. IB hits the road in his motor home, called the "Blues Bucket," in order to accept a contract with a record company that he was once offered. However, things don't go as planned and IB winds up playing on the road with three people he meets, Dustin (Jonathon Boogie Long), Layla (Bianca Ryan), and young Sam (Pryce Watkins), who has been abused by his dad since his mother died. The donations are small and one meal consists of hot dog buns and tuna fish.

The movie shows what can happen when four ragamuffins wind up together and believe in God and in their music. Soon it would seem that an angel is watching out for them as well. This is an enjoyable view with some terrific music if you enjoy rhythm and blues. We are pleased to award it our Dove "Family-Approved" Seal for ages twelve plus. "We Are Kings" hits it out of the park!
