In animated 3D, The Nut Job is an action-packed comedy in fictional Oakton that follows the travails of Surly (voiced by Will Arnett), a mischievous squirrel, and his rat friend Buddy, who plan a nut store heist of outrageous proportions and unwittingly find themselves embroiled in a much more complicated and hilarious adventure

Dove Worldview:
This marvelous film is about the power of unity and friendship. Surly the squirrel (voiced by Will Arnett) is out to find nuts for himself and isn't concerned about the needs of the entire park, including the female squirrel Andie (Katherine Heigl) or Raccoon (Liam Neeson) or any other member of the community. His only companion is Buddy, a rat, and Surly isn't too nice to Buddy at times. Grayson (Brendan Fraser), another squirrel, likes him but Surly isn't too nice to him either.

However, when Surly discovers a basement full of nuts at a nut shop (which is run by some underground criminals) he soon finds himself in a jam and he needs help from the others. He comes to realize that maybe two, or in this case, an entire community, really is better than being a lone ranger. In one funny scene Surly winds up on one side of a windshield on a wiper and a bird continually pecks at him from the other wiper. The film features themes of friendship and loyalty and putting the needs of all above one's own personal needs. There is a lot of fantasy and physical violence with characters slamming into walls, being knocked around, hit, etc. but none of the kids in the screening I attended seemed frightened at all. Due to the overall wholesome content we are therefore recommending this movie for our Dove "Family-Approved" Seal for all ages. Go ahead and be a little nut and see it soon!
