Some of the themes of this movie are to be commended such as a line in the beginning of the film which states, "We make our plans but life is what happens to us along the way." In this action-packed story Colin Farrell plays a man named Victor, who is secretly Hungarian with the former name of Laszlo. He uses a new name because he survived an incident in which he and his wife was the target. Unfortunately, he lost a daughter too. Now he is seeking revenge against the man responsible: an underworld crook named Alphonse (Terrence Howard) and a group of Albanians.
Victor meets a woman named Beatrice (Noomi Rapace) who knows Victor has committed murder and she uses this knowledge to bribe him to kill a man, the man that was drunk and caused her scars as a result of an automobile accident. The intriguing thing about this story is that Victor and Beatrice are attracted to each other and soon realize that hate might not be the solution to their problems after all.
It's regrettable that, despite a pretty good story, the movie is saddled with the F bomb multiple times not to mention bloody violence. In addition, the drug listing and sex content hit a level three, placing it outside our acceptable perimeters. For these reasons we can't award it our Dove Seal as a family-friendly film.
Sex: Man in bed with prostitute and the sex act is obviously going on although not overly graphic; prostitute demands to be paid when sex is interrupted; kissing by a couple.
Language: A lot of language including multiple uses of the F word but thankfully no uses of Biblical profanity.
Violence: A lot of violence including many people being shot and some with bloody results; a character is shot in the head; a man is hanged by a wire after being thrown out of a building five stories up; an explosion and man is engulfed in flames; two men shoot each other at close range; a man has been tied up and blindfolded and he has rats placed on him and then he's shot.
Drugs: Cocaine is seen and is being prepared for selling; smoking and drinking in several scenes; a woman has facial scars because of an automobile accident in which a drunken man was responsible; wine; a comment about "grass".
Nudity: A woman's thigh is seen; cleavage; shirtless man.
Other: Two characters seek revenge for terrible losses they suffered; betrayal.
