Synopsis:
In the Louisiana Bayou, a little boy was convinced that God had something spacial to say, just to him. Abandoned by his parents and left to the care of his abusive uncles, 11 year old Dillan struggles desperately to put together the pieces of his life, and his most prized possession: a toy airplane made by the father he never knew.
Filmed on location in the beautiful bayous of Angie, Louisiana, "the Little Red Plane" is a heartwarming story of love and forgiveness. Dove Worldview:
"The Little Red Plane" has a surprise ending with a wonderful theme running throughout. The theme is that people must give an account to God and that God, in his infinite mercy, forgives and allows people to make U-turns and to turn back to Him.
Dilan is eleven years old and is unceremoniously dumped off at his grandfather's home by his mother and her bad-news boyfriend, who is in trouble with the law. In fact, when his mother Marsha gets out of the car to say good-bye to Dilan, she tells him to grow up to be good and "don't do drugs" and she gets into the car as the sound of police sirens get louder and louder as they are obviously not far away.
Dilan's grandfather is ill and apparently this is one of the reasons he puts up with his teen sons, Bo and Harry, who smoke marijuana and are mean to Dilan. In fact, one of Dilan's uncles shoves him and he crashes into some dishes and a counter and bruises his ribs. However, his uncle Harry seems less mean and Dilan continues to tell him what he has learned about God from Pastor Jason. Dilan meets the young pastor, while out walking and he shows an interest in Dilan and takes him to church as well as helps work on his little red plane which, among other things, is missing a propeller. Jason sees something good in Dilan's life and goes out of his way to continue to help him and to warn his uncles about being cruel to Dilan.
The movie focuses on the difference that God's forgiveness can make in one's life and it certainly does in an amazing way in the life of one character that seemed to have little hope in his future. Some gospel music is featured in a few inspirational scenes. We are pleased to award our Dove Seal to this movie for ages twelve plus. "The Little Red Plane" just might touch you and your family in a really big way!
Sex: A sermon mentions things people do which are wrong including "sleeping around".
Language: Frickin-1; Sucks-1; Turd-1; a comment about doing "half-butt" work.
Violence: A boy is abused including being thrown into a counter which hurts his ribs; young men hold a gun on other characters; a minister holds a gun on those who are abusing a boy; a barbed wire fence is thrown at a boy but an adult catches it and the result is his injured and bloody hands; blood from a cut is seen on a character.
Drugs: A few scenes of smoking cigarettes; a couple of characters smoke marijuana cigarettes but one turns from it when he becomes a Christian and one pays the price and is arrested by police; a minister talks about turning to God if one wants to quit smoking and that He will help; a character is seen drinking a beer; it's mentioned a certain man drove while drunk; a few comments about marijuana which is called "Mary Jane" and pot.
Nudity: None
Other: A young Christian is called a "little Jesus freak"; a boy is called a "prophet" and "Moses" in mockery; a man dies and there is grief; a man's ashes are poured out at a river.
