Synopsis:
When Toby (Clint Black) takes on a managing job at a boarding stable with Flicka in tow, the owner's teenage daughter Kelly quickly bonds with the wild horse. Kelly, a budding equestrian rider, would love to break Flicka for her team's competition, however, her mother Lindy (Lisa Hartman Black) doesn't want to get her hopes up as their stable may soon be for sale. With the competition coming up and a rival trainer stealing business, Toby steps in to train Kelly's team and save the stable. Dove Worldview:
This is one of the best family movies I have recently watched. It has everything that makes a good family film including a wonderful story, inspiring themes and safe content for the entire family to enjoy. A teen girl named Kelly (Kacey Rohl) bonds with the Mustang called Flicka when Toby (Clint Black) comes to Cherry Creek to take care of the horses at their boarding stable. The setting is beautiful, as the story takes place in Larkspur, Wyoming.
Kelly and her mother Lindy (Lisa Hartman Black) are still recovering from the death of Kelly's father and Lindy's husband. To add to the complications a young rider named Stephanie is at odds with Kelly even though they used to be best friends. Stephanie likes a boy named Briggs but so does Kelly, who is trying to get long-time friend Briggs to notice her in a romantic way.
Each character fights his/her own battle but the characters grow and develop during the changes which take place and ultimately Kelly has a chance to ride again in a contest (something she hasn't done since her father died). This is a wholesome yet entertaining picture and young Kacey Rohl is terrific as Kelly and director Michael Damian manages to make the most of the story, giving us a tightly directed story and characters that we care about. We are more than pleased to award this movie our Dove "Family-Approved" Seal for all ages. Like the horse Flicka, this film is a winner!
