Like it or not, it's impossible to deny the Potter effect. Harry Potter, that is. The book series has sold around 450 million copies and been translated into 67 languages, with the last 4 consecutively setting records as the fastest-selling books in history. Author J.K. Rowling sold the film rights for the first four books to Warner Bros., and in October 2000, filming began. The books and films spawned books about the HARRY POTTER culture, games and an expansion to the Islands of Adventure theme park at Universal Orlando Resort in Florida, soon to be joined by a tourist attraction in the United Kingdom. The theme park expansion was even featured on an episode of Celebrity Apprentice.
And yet, like all good things, it must come to an end; at least at the movies. With 91% of Fandango's ticket sales this week accounted for by sales of tickets to HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2, you can expect it to dominate the box office this weekend, and perhaps for many more weeks to come.
No doubt, good or bad, HARRY POTTER has left his mark on the world of film.
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS: PART 2 is the final adventure in the HARRY POTTER film series. The much-anticipated motion picture event is the second of two full-length parts. In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort. It all ends here.
In honor of the film series' 10-year span, [2001 - 2011], I'm giving you 10 words from 10 critics.
